Maintaining and contributing to the codebases of a large-scale gaming network with 200.000+ members, spanning 20 Rust and Garry's Mod servers across Europe and the US with thousands of concurrent players, featuring unique gameplay mechanics and active communities.

    Responsibilites:

    • Started as primary contributor and wrote the entirety of the core systems.
    • Now leading a small team of developers and junior developers.
    • Overseeing technical direction, feature planning, and long-term roadmap execution.
    • Maintaining GitHub repositories and managing version control processes.
    • Developing and maintaining custom Discord bots for automation and community integration.
    • Supporting community management and infrastructure management across multiple dedicated servers.

    Highlights:

    • Rebuilt the community's oldest „Garry’s Mod“ project into a new custom gamemode, optimizing data and networking performance and establishing it as the leading server in its category across Europe.
    • Planned, developed, and launched two full-scale projects from concept through release to a live playerbase.
    • Implemented GitHub workflows with branch strategies and testing environments, modernizing the team's development practices.
    • Introduced agile-inspired workflows to improve task distribution and collaboration.
    • Designed and deployed integrations between game servers and community Discord servers, enabling automation and streamlined interaction.
    • Migrated multiple datasets and associated game code to new dedicated servers, ensuring scalability and improved performance.

This role has been giving me the opportunity to apply many of the concepts from my computer science degree in a real-world setting — within the demanding environment of live multiplayer systems serving large user bases. This has allowed me to experiment, iterate and deepen my practical understanding, significantly shaping my growth into a software engineer.
